Abbeville is located in
Wilcox County, of which it is the county seat. The 2000 census lists population as 2,298. Located on the Ocmulgee River.
One tradition says the community was named after the wife of David Fitzgerald, who donated land to the county; another says it was named for Abbeville, SC.
