Carrollton is located in
Carroll County, of which it is the county seat, just east of the Alabama state line on the banks of the Tallapoosa River in the
Mountains Region of the state. This small city is centrally located southwest of
Atlanta on Highway 166. The Chattahoochee River is nearby. Carrollton is part of the
Atlanta, Georgia metro area.
It was named after Charles Carroll's estate in Chesapeake Bay.
