Cordele is located in
Crisp County, of which it is the county seat, south of
Macon between Americus and Seville along Interstate 75 near Lake Blackshear in the
Southern Rivers Region of the state.
Cordele is the watermelon Capital of the World and was named after the eldest daughter of Col. Samuel Hawkins, railroad president.
