Decatur is located in
DeKalb County just east of
Atlanta along Interstate 20 near
Stone Mountain Park. Decatur is part of the
Atlanta, Georgia metro area.
It was named after the naval hero Stephen Decatur. Well-known residents have included Amy Ray, singer with the Indigo Girls, Michael Stipe, lead singer with R.E.M. and Angelo Taylor, Olympic medallist.
