Douglasville is located in
Douglas County, of which it is the county seat, just west of
Atlanta between Villa Rica and Lithia Springs along Interstate 20 near the Chattahoochee River. Douglasville is in the
Mountains Region of the state and included within the
Metro Atlanta Region. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 16,073, an increase of 4,438 since 1990.
It was named for Stephen A. Douglas, political leader who lost the presidential race to Abraham Lincoln.
