Elberton is located in
Elbert County, of which it is the county seat, east of
Athens between Dewy Rose and Fortsonia along Highway 72 near the
Savannah River in the
Mountains Region in the state. Situated just west of the South Carolina state line.
It was named after Gen. Samuel Elbert, Revolutionary War officer and GA governor.
