Etowah Indian Mounds St. Historical Site

Search Cartersville Georgia

Located off I-75, this site preserves the area of an American Indian settlement occupied 950-1550 A.D. The earliest published description of the mounds dates from 1817 when a clergyman was guided to the site by a group of Cherokee chiefs who presumably were unaware of the long abandoned area's significance. A museum displays artifacts excavated from the mounds.
