Jefferson Georgia |
Jefferson is located in Jackson County, of which it is the county seat, between Athens and Gainesville in the Mountains Region of the state. Located on Hwy 129, northeast of Atlanta; the Oconee and North Oconee Rivers are nearby.
It was named after President Thomas Jefferson and Dr. Crawford W. Long first used ether for surgery here in 1842.
