Lawrenceville is located in
Gwinnett County, of which it is the county seat, just northeast of
Atlanta along Highway 20 in the
Metro Atlanta Region of the state. Lawrenceville is part of the
Atlanta, Georgia metro area.
It was named after James Lawrence, naval officer who became famous for his dying words, "Don't give up the ship!"
