Louisville is located in Jefferson County, of which it is the county seat, southwest of Augusta between Waynesboro and Wrightsville along Highway 1 on the banks of the Ogeechee River in the Historic South Region of the state. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 2,471, a decrease of 15 since 1990.
Louisville was named after King Louis XVI of France.
