Lumpkin is located in Stewart County, of which it is the county seat, south of Columbus between Richland and Sanford along Highway 27 near Hodchodkee Creek in the Southern Rivers Region of the state. It was named after Gov. Wilson Lumpkin. Nearby parks and recreation include the Providence Canyon Conservation Park and the Florence Marina State Park.
