Located on Auburn Avenue, the site is a 23.5 acre area that includes the birthplace, church and grave of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., civil rights leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner. The surrounding preservation district includes the residential and commercial sections of the Sweet Auburn neighborhood, the center of
Atlanta's African-American community during most of the 20th century.
