This restored and reconstructed village indludes the Worcester House, the courthouse, Vann's Tavern and a newspaper office. The site of the last capital of the Cherokee Nation in Georgia, the treaty that moved the Cherokee westward was signed at New Echota under the administration of President Andrew Jackson. The tribal nation adopted the alphabet devised by the American Indian scholar Sequoyah as the Cherokees' first written language. The `Cherokee Phoenix`, published in 1828, was the first newspaper to use this alaphabet.
