The Rialto is a renovated movie theater, a venue from the glory days of large motion picture houses that has been reborn as a state-of-the-art contemporary performance space affiliated with Georgia State University. The renovations, completed in 1996, included raising the roof 12 feet to improve the acoustics, among other dramatic changes. Since the reopening of the Rialto, more than 100,000 patrons have experienced performances ranging from theater to dance to music offerings including jazz, blues, rock, and classical.
