Suwanee is located in
Gwinnett County just northeast of
Atlanta between Buford and Duluth along Highway 23 on the banks of the Chattahoochee River near Lake Sidney Lanier in the
Metro Atlanta Region of the state. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 6,872, an increase of 4,460 since 1990.
Suwanee is part of the Atlanta, Georgia metro area.
It was named for a Cherokee village, and possibly for the Suwanee tribe.
