Vidalia is located in Toombs County west of Savannah between Mount Vernon and Lyons along Highway 280 in the Historic South Region of the state.
It was named for Jose Vidal, Spanish army officer and Farmer Mose Coleman grew the region's first sweet onions in 1931.
