Diamond Head Hike |
It's more than 100 stair steps to the lookout, but worth it. Bring water, a flashlight and camera; rest a spell when you reach the top, the amazing view stretches for miles. You can see the island of Molokai on clear days. The koolau or mountains are awesome. Views of Waikiki and Honolulu below are amazing.
Paths for the hike are well defined. There are steps (some spiral stairs) and dark tunnels through old war bunkers. Depending on your pace, the trek will take an hour uphill (3/4th a mile) and 45 minutes back down. Restrooms and water fountain are located near the parking lot. Gates open daily at 6am and close at 6pm. Get there early to beat the rush and the heat. Cost is $1 per person.
