Makapuu Beach

This small crescent beach on the southeast windward coast is perfect for catching some rays. Swimming can be tricky because the beach is exposed to sea swells, which in turn sets up currents. With wind waves on top of swells plus currents, it is sometimes a good idea to get refreshed at the edge of the water and work on your tan. There are changing rooms with indoor and outdoor showers and an islet named Rabbit Island is just offshore. There are sea cliffs along this coast and going up and down the steep driveways can be arduous. It is sometimes better to park along the road and walk down. This beach is across from aquarium just south of Waimanalo.
