This is one of the many observatories on the peak of Hawaii's tallest mountain Mauna Kea. The clean air on top of the 13,800 foot mountain in the middle of the Pacific make it the best atronomical site on Earth.
The Onizuka Center for International Astronomy has limited visitor services at 9,300 feet. It is named for the Hawaiian astronaut who died in the 1986 Challenger Space Shuttle disaster. Phone 808-969-3218 for weather info.
