Sheraton Moana Surfrider

This Waikiki motel has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Much of the original Moana has been retained in its merger with the adjacent Surfrider. The hotel is a prime example of the Beaux Arts style.

The rococo furnishings and architectural details are typical of the resort style that originated on the French Riviera and influenced design in places like Palm Beach and Honolulu. The Rotunda is above the entrance lobby.

It contains old photographs and memorabilia dating from the opening of the hotel in 1901. Old furnishings and historical exhibits add to the nostalgia for a day gone by. There are 793 rooms total and floors have a theme of wood decoration.

For example, the fifth floor has koa wood decorations. The $50 million restoration aimed to retain the character and authenticity of the original decorations. There are 10,000 sq ft of confernce facilities.
