This 10 mile round trip loop trail guides visitors to the dry cinder portions of the crater where silverswords grow. In full bloom during the summer, they can reach six feet in height.
The distinctive silvery leaves and the shape of the plant itself are dagger-like. It is endemic to the dry cinders of the crater. The loop begins 4.75 miles from the park road via Halemauu Trail.
