This one of the many strands of beach that extend across the northshore of
Oahu Island. Sunset Beach is only a mile north of
Ehukai Beach Park along the Kamehameha Hwy. Facilities are practically non-existent, with only a portapotty at the site.
Like other beaches in the area, the waves are ferocious in the winter. Perfect for world-class surfing, but not safe for everyday swimming. Summers are another story, however. The seas are calm and the waves gentle.
Carryout trucks along the highway sell cool drinks and a plate of food. Shave ice, a local favorite with flavored syrups on top, refresh the hot, salty beachgoers.
