The Gold Course, new in 1994, is the most challenging of Wailea's three courses. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr, it has ancient native lava rock walls left intact when the course was built.
It has 93 bunkers and one lake and was named one of the top ten new resort courses in the nation in 1994 by "Golf Digest". The 7,070 yd course is par 72 for 18 holes. Golfers note bunkers, bunkers and more bunkers..."a great course layout".
One golfer reported "the most memorable moment was pausing prior to hitting on a par 3 so I could watch whales out at sea."
