Richards House

Built in 1883, Richards House is a four-storey Stick style mansion constructed as a showcase of wood and stained glass. The house boasts eight varieties of varnished woodwork, eight fireplaces, 15 different patterns of embossed wall coverings, and original chandeliers. It has large rooms which are furnished with period antiques. Most have TV with VCR, phones, and private baths featuring original fixtures. Full breakfast is served in the dining room.

Comments: We stayed at the Richards House in the fall of 2006. We were very disappointed with our stay. The outside (as stated in their website) looks very bad. Inside, we witnessed water running through the ceiling down electrical wires as well as cobwebs and peeling paint and a host and hostess that were not pleasant at all. We have stayed at other quality B&B's in Dubuque in the past. There is no reason for us to ever stay at the Richards House again.
