Southeast Region

The Southeast Region of Iowa contains a variety of interesting places to visit. Old Fort Madison, the Midwest's oldest American military garrison on the upper Mississippi River, lies in the southeast corner of the state.

Outdoor lovers will enjoy hiking in Shimek State Forest off of Highway 218. In Burlington, travelers may enjoy the famous landmark, Snake Alley, designated "the crookedest street in the world" by Ripley's Believe It or Not.
