Established in the seventeen century and based in London, England, the Hudson's Bay Company was the force behind much of the commercial exploitation of what is now Canada and parts of the Pacific Northwest states. Hudson's Bay outposts were among the first to be established by the European explorers. Today, the company still exists, primarily as a chain of large department stores in Canada.
