Nationally designated as a Wild and Scenic River, the Lochsa begins high in the Bitterroots on Lolo Pass and flows 65 miles southwest, partly through a 4000-ft-deep canyon in rugged, forested mountains, to join the
Selway River at
Lowell. This river roughly parallels the
Lolo Trail, the historic route of the
Lewis and Clark Expedition.
