The seat of Fremont County northeast of Rexburg, St Anthony was named because early settlers found the nearby rapids carried a resemblance to the Falls of St Anthony on the Mississippi River at Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The community of 3,324 lies on US 20 on the west slope of the Continental Divide and the Henry's Fork of the Snake River. While its main industry remains agriculture with an emphasis on potatoes, grain and cattle, - lumber, dairy and related businesses can also be found there. New high-tech businesses are also starting up in St. Anthony, attracted by its ambience.
