Breese is located in southwestern Illinois in Clinton County about 40 miles east of St Louis along U.S. Highway 50 on the banks of the Kaskaskia River. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 3,897, an increase of 330 since 1990.Outdoor recreation is centered around Carlyle Lake located 10 miles east of town. In addition, Eldon Hazlet State Park and South Shore State Park are another 5 miles up the west and east shorelines of the lake. Those that enjoy the game of golf will want to try Bent Oak Golf Course.
