Cowden is located in central Illinois in
Shelby County south of
Decatur between
Taylorville and
Effingham along Highway 128 overlooking the
Kaskaskia River about 15 miles south of
Lake Shelbyville. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 599.
For past, present and future cowboys as well as casual observers, Cowden is a regular stop on the Illinois High School Rodeo Association tour.
