Elizabeth is located in northwestern Illinois in
Jo Daviess County southeast of
Dubuque, IA, between
Galena and
Freeport along U.S. Highway 20 two miles east of the
Apple River and about 10 miles east of the
Mississippi River.
Local attractions include the Long Hollow Tower, an observation tower offering a spectacular panarama, and the Apple River Fort, built during the Black Hawk Wars of the early 1830s. Social highlights include the Jo Daviess County 4-H Fair, held in mid-July at the Elizabeth Fairgrounds and "Harvest Fest Hoedown", held the 1st week of October.
The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 735, an increase of 35 since 1990.
