Governor Oglesby Mansion

Home of Richard J. Oglesby, U.S. Senator and three-time governor of Illinois. Built in 1874, the home has Ogelsby's original library which has been lovingly restored with wallpaper and furnishings of the Gilded Age.

This mansion is of the Italianate style, including low-pitched roof with belvedere, or flat deck area at the roof's center complete with a balustrade (railingworks); bay windows and verandas. The diamond-shaped lead window panes are original to the home and set off the graceful facade. The interior of the house features parquet wood flooring, a walnut staircase and seven fireplaces.
