Highwood is located in northeastern Illinois in
Lake County just north of
Chicago between
Waukegan and
Highland Park along U.S. Highway 41 on the shores of
Lake Michigan. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 5,130, a decrease of 201 since 1990.
Highwood has been a center of fine dining on Chicago's North Shore since the turn of the century (the 20th, that is). There are a variety of foods in over 30 restaurants - American, Chinese, Continental, French, Italian and Mexican - many of them family-operated.
