Since 1882, Children's Memorial Hospital has been the place where kids come first. That was the year Julia Porter transformed the loss of her 13-year-old son Maurice into a gift for other sick children, and turned an eight-bed cottage at Chicago's Halsted Street and Belden Avenue into the Maurice Porter Memorial Hospital.
Dedicated to the free care and treatment of children, the hospital soon saw local demand outweigh available space. Since its founding in 1882, the mission and vision of Children's Memorial Hospital has single-mindedly focused on the needs of children and their families. Their staff members are trained in pediatrics, all of their equipment is sized for kids, the care is built around families' needs, and even facilities are designed with children in mind.
Today, in its second century, Children's Memorial has expanded into a multi-building campus and provides care at 13 Chicagoland locations.
