New Lenox is located in northeastern Illinois in Will County just east of Joliet. The population estimate for 2000 was 30,000.Although settlement of the area began in the 1820s, it wasn't until 1946 that the town was officially incorporated. The township was created, along with Will county, in 1852 when the Rock Island Railroad made its way from Chicago to Rock Island and was named "Tracey" in honor of the railroad's superintendent. The name was later changed to New Lenox after a town in New York.
