Founded in 1878 and proudly promoting the area's fine arts, the Guild is the oldest such organization in the state of Illinois. They not only exhibit works by local artists but those of the regional, national and international communities. Many of those artists are represented in the Guild's gift shop. In addition, the Guild offers a variety of educational programs for the public. This non-profit entity sponsors, among other events, the annual "Fine Arts Fair" held the last weekend in September in Riverfront Festival Park. It was developed in 1963 to expose the community to the fine arts genre and to provide local artists a venue in which to display their works.
