River Forest, incorporated in 1880, is located in northeast Illinois in Cook County west of Chicago and about 5 miles west-northwest of Cicero. The estimated population for 2000 was about 12,000.

This pretty little town has been named to the list of "Tree City, USA" recipients for the past 5 years (as of 2002) as it has an active tree management program and a large number of people celebrate Arbor Day by planting a tree somewhere in the area.

For those seeking a post-high school educational experience, the town is host to Concordia University and Dominican University, each a four-year institution of higher learning.
