Scales Mound

Scales Mound is located in northwestern Illinois in Jo Daviess County about 10 miles northeast of Galena. The town is the nearest population center to Charles Mound, the highest point in Illinois at 1,235 feet. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 407, an increase of 19 since 1990.

Area recreation includes outings to Apple River Canyon State Park, about 10 miles to the east as well as the local Scales Mound City Park.
