Sesser is located in southern Illinois in northwestern
Franklin County about 15 miles south-southwest of
Mt. Vernon and 2 miles west of
Rend Lake. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 2,081, a decrease of 6 since 1990.
Nearby recreational opportunities abound with Wayne Fitzgerald State Park about 10 miles to the east and the Rend Lake Game Management Area about 10 miles north-northeast of town. In addition, the northern reaches of the Shawnee National Forest is only 20 miles to the south.
