Shorewood Illinois |
Shorewood, known as "Troy"* until its formal incorporation in 1957, is located in northeastern Illinois in Will County about 2 miles west of Joliet on the banks of the DuPage River 2 miles east of the Kendall County line. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 8,038, an increase of 1,774 since 1990.
One of the anticipated events of summer is the Shorewood Crossroads Festival, a 3-day event held the 2nd weekend of August and featuring a carnival, co-ed mud volleyball, craft fair, beer garden, food vendors and live music, to name just a few of the activities and venues.
* (The town is not to be confused with Troy in Madison County. There are several examples of towns taking the same name during the early development of Illinois in the mid-1800s due in large part to a lack of communication. As towns officially incorporated, some, such as Sherwood, had to adopt new names.)
