The Spring Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area is located in west central Illinois in southwestern Tazewell County about 20 miles southwest of Peoria and one mile east of the Illinois River.The area began its development in 1950 with the first purchase of about 600 acres. Today, over 2,000 acres are under management surrounding the 8.5 mile long, 1,300-acre lake (technically separated into north and south lakes). A variety of activities are on hand in the area including hunting (deer archery, squirrel and waterfowl), hiking (Stage Coach Road, Deer Run and Whispering Pine trails), 5 day-use/picnicking areas (3 with shelters) and about 70 camp sites (Class C--no showers or electricity).
