Thomson is located in northwestern Illinois in southwestern
Carroll County along SR 84 overlooking the
Mississippi River. The population estimate for 2000 was about 550.
This little hamlet is not only ensconced in a fertile agricultural area (prompting the nickname "Melon Capital of the World"), but a fish and wildlife mecca, as well. They are known for some of the best deer, duck and wild turkey hunting in the state. In addition, the Mississippi gives up large catfish, bass, bluegill, Northern pike and walleye to name just a few species.
