James F.D. Lanier State Historic Site |
This Greek Revival style mansion was designed by architect Francis Costigan and completed in 1844. The wrought iron that adorns the mansion was fabricated in Madison foundries. The house features a three story spiral staircase and several pieces of original furniture. The mansion was the home of James F.D. Lanier, a banker who financed the state during a difficult period of the Civil War with a loan of more than $1 million.
