Knightstown

Knightstown is located in Henry County east of Indianapolis along Highway 40 just off Interstate 70 on the banks of the Big Blue River. Knightstown is also near Little Blue River and Flat Rock River.

Knightstown was incorporated as a town in 1837. Midway between Richmond and Indianapolis and with excellent water resources, the town attracted industry and retail businesses. Water and steam-powered grist, woolen, planing, flax, saw and paper mills came. Some other early industries included Blacksmiths, a brickyard, cabinet shop, cannery, casket factory, coal yard, cooper shop, feed mill, furniture factory, ice company, and tanneries.

Knightstown has maintained its extraordinary collection of 19th and early 20th century architecture. A sizeable portion of the town and two individual buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
