Martinsville is located in Morgan County (of which it is the county seat) south of Indianapolis along State Highway 37 on the banks of the White River near Cataract Falls.Martinsville is located in a serene valley surrounded by hills. Its origin was established by an act of the state legislature in December of 1821. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 13,869, an increase of 2,212 since 1990. Martinsville is part of the Indianapolis, Indiana metro area.
