New Albany is located in Floyd County (of which it is the county seat) just west of Jeffersonville along Interstate 64 near the banks of the Ohio River and the Kentucky/Indiana border. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 38,265, an increase of 1,943 since 1990. New Albany is part of the Louisville, Kentucky-Indiana metro area.
