Scott County (of which it is the county seat) along Interstate 65 north of
Jeffersonville. Scottsburg is near Hardy Lake, Hardy Lake State Recreation Area, and Clark State Forest.
The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 5,755, an increase of 421 since 1990.
