The town of Birr, close to the geographic centre of Ireland, is in
County Offaly. Over 200 artifacts such as spears, buckets and axes attest to its Bronze Age settlement here more than 6,000 years ago.
The most prominent landmark is Birr Castle, home of Sir Laurence Parsons, who was given possession of Birr Town in 1620.
