Founded in 1893, Birr Golf Club is one of the finest parkland courses in the country carved out of natural woodlands and eskers. The undulating fairways and dry sod are reminiscent of many of Ireland's famous links courses. Originally part of the estate of the Earl of Rosse, this eighteen hole, par 70 course, measures 6357 yards and with standard scratch at 70, is considered a demanding test for the scratch and handicapper, demanding concentration on every shot. Golf is possible all year round, with good drainage and mild climate, winter greens are not necessary. Many of the holes are laid out in attractive avenues and valleys, none more so than the short but difficult 10th running alongside the clubhouse. Club Hire; Golf Shop; Driving Range; Full Restaurant & Bar Facilities.
