Pop. 12762 Elev. 1100' Arkansas City is located in the Central Region of the state, in Cowley County and south of Winfield along Highway 166 near Cowley State Fishing Lake, and near the Walnut River and the Arkansas River. The town is about 45 minute drive from Wichita, and is nestled on a bluff at the confluence of the Arkansas and Walnut Rivers at the edge of the beautiful Kansas Flint Hills. "Ark City" is an agricultural, industrial and business center which, over the past 100 years, has grown into a progressive community with many cultural, recreational and educational opportunities. The spirit of progress is balanced by warmth, friendliness and tranquility that are typical of small towns. Arkalalah is one of the many annual events in Arkansas City. Arkalalah is an Indian term meaning good times. Celebrated in late October, Arkalalah is Ark Citys annual fall festival. People from all around come to participate in the festivities, view the crowning of Queen Alalah, and see the Big Parade.
